What coconut shell charcoal briquettes are

A coconut shell charcoal briquette is a compressed fuel made by carbonising coconut shell and binding the resulting charcoal powder with tapioca starch, then pressing it to a fixed shape and drying it. It is sold as shisha charcoal or hookah coals, and is valued for burning longer and leaving less ash than wood charcoal.

For trade purposes two classifications matter. The product sits under HS heading 4402 as charcoal of vegetable origin. For sea freight it is UN 1361, Class 4.2, Packing Group III — a dangerous good, with no exemption route since IMDG Amendment 42-24 became mandatory on 1 January 2026. Shapes and sizes

Five shapes are produced, each in several sizes, with custom dimensions available on request. Pieces per kilogram is the figure that decides how a retail box looks and what it costs to fill, so it is listed alongside the dimensions.

Piece counts are nominal and vary with density and moisture at the time of packing. Confirm the count for your size against the sample before it goes into a retail box specification.

A specification is a target range, not a test result. Ash and fixed carbon vary batch to batch, and burn and ignition times depend on the bowl, the heat management device and the airflow they are measured under. Ask for the lab report covering the batch you are actually buying, and treat any figure not tied to a dated report from a named laboratory — ours or anyone's — as a claim rather than a measurement.

Wholesale terms and container loading

Minimum order is 1 × FCL (20 ft or 40 ft). Every shape packs into the same 10 kg net master carton, which is what makes the loading table below comparable across shapes.

The two container sizes fill differently, and the difference is worth understanding before you choose. A 20 ft cubes out before it weighs out — it runs out of space first, so payload changes with the shape's packing density. A 40 ft weighs out before it cubes out, hitting the weight cap regardless of shape, which is why one figure covers every shape in that column.

Carton counts marked measured come from actual stuffing records. Those marked derived are payload divided by the 10 kg carton weight — sound arithmetic, because the binding constraint per equipment is known, but not a separate stuffing measurement. Charcoal is declared as UN 1361, Class 4.2, Packing Group III. That decides the document pack, which carriers will take the booking, and who signs for the declaration. What is the minimum order quantity?

1 × FCL (20 ft or 40 ft). Within a container you can mix shapes, sizes and packaging formats, so a first order does not have to be a single SKU.

How long does production take?

15 working days (20 ft) · 20 working days (40 ft). That is production time only — it excludes packaging, quality control and vessel booking, so build a buffer into your arrival date.

Which incoterms do you sell on?

EXW Factory is the default, and CFR is available on some orders. Under EXW the buyer is the dangerous-goods declarant for the sea leg, which is a real obligation rather than a formality — it decides who signs the DG declaration and who carries the liability if it is wrong.

Which port do you load from?

Jakarta (Tanjung Priok) is the primary port of loading. Semarang is also used, on MSC.

Can I get a sample before ordering?

Yes, and it is free — you cover the delivery. Because charcoal is UN 1361 Class 4.2 it cannot travel as an ordinary parcel, so samples move as declared dangerous goods or by sea rather than by courier.
